The Lakehead University Social Committee is inviting faculty, staff, and students to participate in a fun afternoon with their peers and colleagues!

Join us as Lakehead Rocks Lake Tamblyn - in celebration of a great summer and the beginning of a new academic year.

The afternoon will be filled with games, prizes, music, karaoke, and delicious food!

We will be collecting LUSU Food Resource Centre donations. Food, reusable bags, pet supplies,
toiletry items, and monetary contributions are welcome.

Stop by the courtyard to mix your own mocktail and play some not-drinking games with Student Health and Wellness and friends.

Take a break, step outside and visit with the St. John Ambulance therapy dogs by Lake Tamblyn every Tuesday from 12-1 this summer.

In cases of inclement weather, this event will be moved to the Student Health and Wellness Activity located in the Prettie Residence. 

As staff and faculty, you are often the first to recognize that a student is in distress so it is important that you feel equipped to identify these behaviours and also understand how you can help.  The Supporting Students in Distress Guide and accompanying workshop outline the various levels of distress and the resources you can provide for a student in each level of distress. \

The workshop will help participants:

• Explore some of the key guidelines on how to observe, engage and refer students in distress;
• Identify specific strategies on how to begin and manage challenging conversations with students who may be in distress;
• Locate some of the main resources—academic, safety and health and wellness—at the University and the wider community;
• Adapt self-care strategies for managing students in distress.

Registration is required, session delivered via Zoom.

Student Health and Wellness is looking for students to sit on the Student Wellness Advisory Team (SWAT) for this upcoming year! 

The group works to facilitate student input into the overall operations and initiatives of Student Health and Wellness, Lakehead University’s Wellness Strategy and Student Health and Wellness Health Promotion Strategy. Students who join are able to add it to their co-curricular record.

Students from both Thunder Bay and Orillia are welcome and those from equity-seeking groups are encouraged to take part. Meetings will occur 2 times per semester over Zoom.

You made it through the first part of the semester, you deserve a break! Stop by Student Health and Wellness to build your own self-care tool kit and relax in our activity room. 

Join us outside the Athletics facilities for some outdoor games and to find out how to get active and involved with Athletics and Recreation at Lakehead. 

Learn about the fitness facilities, intramural sports and fitness programming on campus, meet reps from Lakehead club sports teams and student clubs, and find out about the jobs that are available within Athletics. 

Slow down for a minute, unwind by painting a clay pot, and get to know your fellow Thunderwolves. At the end of the event, you'll get an indoor plant to take home in your newly decorated pot.

Supplies are limited, first-come first-served. 

Get familiar with wellness services on and off campus and meet the Lakehead Staff here to support you while you are a Thunderwolf. There will be facility tours, outdoor games and activities, food, and giveaways!

safeTALK is a 4-hour, in-person workshop to build skills in suicide prevention. Participants will learn how to recognize and engage with someone thinking about suicide, overcome attitudes that act as barriers to help, talk openly about suicide and connect with intervention resources for further support.

Through presentations, audiovisuals, small group discussion and scenario practice, you will learn a 4-step TALK model and practical steps to help activate a suicide alert that connects people having thoughts of suicide with more specialized intervention care and relevant resources.

All participants will receive a learning booklet, resources and a Certificate of Completion.
