Refresh Sleep Program

The Refresh Sleep program aims to provide Lakehead students, staff and faculty with the skills and strategies to achieve more restful nights.

When you join the Refresh Sleep program, you will receive a weekly email for eight weeks that has an attached PDF with important information and tips that have been proven to help improve sleep. It is encouraged to spend at least thirty minutes per week with the program information. The materials include information about:

  • The physiology of sleep
  • Sleep hygiene
  • Relaxation training
  • Mindfulness training
  • Cognitive strategies
  • Keeping sleep logs

Please note that you will not receive your first email until October 10, 2021

Yoga is back! 

Join instructor Ameena by the lake for some sun salutations every Tuesday and Thursday in August. No yoga experience is required. Open to all members of the Lakehead community! Please bring your own mat, water bottle and props. 

Classes will be cancelled in adverse weather.

Registration is required and attendees must complete the COVID Screen on the Lakehead Mobile Safety App.

Running with the Wolves is a Virtual Run Club for first-time runners or those running for the first time in a while!

Beginning on June 6, participants will receive a weekly newsletter with running tips and tricks from Lakehead University Athletics and Student Health and Wellness. This program will help participants go from 0 to 5k throughout the 8 weeks. 

They will be a part of a community through Strava Clubs where they can meet other runners, get motivated, and share their favourite photos. 

This program is open to current students, incoming students, staff, faculty, and alumni from either Campus. Sign up by June 5!

How to register

Register for the Thunderwolves Running with Wolves Programs by completing this google form! Instructions for joining the Strava club will be sent upon receipt of registration.

Q: Do I need a Strava Account?

A: Yes, in order to fully participate in the community aspect of Running with the Wolves, a Strava Account is necessary. You can create a free Strava Account here: https://www.strava.com/register/free.

Please note it is not necessary to purchase any of the subscriptions associated with Strava to participate in Running with the Wolves 

Q: Do I need to run with my phone or a GPS Tracking Device?

A: No! A GPS Tracker is not necessary to participate, as you can manually input your runs onto Strava using these instructions if you prefer to run without a GPS tracker or phone.

Supporting Students in Distress

As staff and faculty, you are often the first to recognize that a student is in distress so it is important that you feel equipped to identify these behaviours and also understand how you can help.  The Supporting Students in Distress Guide and accompanying workshop outline the various levels of distress and the resources you can provide for a student in each level of distress.  We will also cover available supports in various areas, both on and off-campus including Counselling and Wellness, Academic Services, Disability Services, Legal and Conduct, and Community Supports.

Registration required. Those who register will receive a recording of the event if unable to attend live. Grad student welcome.
