Supporting Resilience on Campus

Navigating the post-secondary realm often involves adapting to difficult and unexpected challenges. Resilience helps us successfully overcome these challenges and maintain our well-being in the face of adversity. In this webinar, we are joined by Selena Norman from CICMH to discuss Thriving in the Classroom, a toolkit that provides staff with the necessary tools to create an environment that supports resiliency for both themselves and their students. This session will discuss the four kinds of resilience (community, personal, academic, and career) that can promote wellbeing and strengthen resilience in virtual and in-person classrooms, ensuring everyone thrives on campus and beyond.

Speaker Bio

Selena Norman (she/her) is the Campus Community Lead at the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health (CICMH). Her work revolves around creating resources to support campus wellbeing and supporting campus-community partnerships that work to increase capacity in supporting student mental health and wellbeing. Her educational background includes a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Waterloo, a Behavioural Science Technician Diploma from George Brown College, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology from the University of Ottawa.

safeTALK

safeTALK is an in-person workshop to build skills in suicide prevention. Participants will learn how to recognize and engage with someone thinking about suicide, overcome attitudes that act as barriers to help, talk openly about suicide and connect with intervention resources for further support.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion, registration is required.

Outdoor Mindful Meditation

Take a mindful pause with us during CMHA Mental Health Week. Join SHW Counsellor Holly Maki for a calming outdoor meditation session at the Wellness Path Labyrinth, located by the Bora Laskin Education Building. This guided practice will help you ground yourself, connect with nature, and recharge.

Open to all members of the Lakehead community—students, staff, and faculty are all welcome. No experience necessary. 

In case of inclement weather, the session will be moved indoors to the Student Health and Wellness Activity Room.
