Radioactive Materials
In Canada, the possession and use of nuclear substances and radiation devices are regulated by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in accordance with the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA), its associated regulations and CNSC licenses. Nuclear substances and radiation devices account for about 2,500 of the CNSC licenses and are widely used in medicine, research and teaching, with the majority issued for a variety of industrial applications.
At present Lakehead University does not have any on-going work involving nuclear substances, radiation devices or sealed sources occurring on our premises. Any work with the above-mentioned substances, sources or equipment will require a license to be issued by CNSC to Lakehead University. Contact the HR Officer - Safety for more information.
