Lakehead University, Orillia Campus, invites applications for a Contract Lecturer for the following courses in the Faculty of Business Administration:
Fall Term:
BUSI 1310 – Principles of Information Systems – (1 section) (In-person) | M & W (5:30 PM - 7:00 PM)
Focuses on information systems, technology, and their importance in business. Provides introduction to databases and data management, software and its development process, information systems strategy, business intelligence, eBusiness, innovation, as well as current trends in the Information Systems profession. Excel and Access skills will be implemented.
BUSI 1376 - Business Math – (1 section) (In-person) | T & TH (5:30 PM – 7:00 PM)
Introduces fundamental quantitative concepts and applications related to Business decision-making. Review of algebra, solving linear equations, plotting diagrams given linear equations, marginal and average cost and break-even analysis, cross exchange rate, compound interest, annuities, perpetuities, payments due, and loan amortization. Prepares students for mathematical applications required in subsequent business courses.
BUSI 2331 – Business Communications I – (1 section) (In-person) | T (5:30 PM - 8:30 PM)
Students are exposed to the writing skills necessary to be successful business managers. Topics will include the writing of memos, letters and other forms of written communication.
BUSI 4351 – Business Law – (1 section) (In-person) | M (7:00 PM - 10:00 PM)
A study of the Canadian legal system to assist the administrator in understanding topics such as: commercial transactions, civil litigation, alternative dispute resolution, employment law, negligence, professional liability, consumer protection, competition law.
Winter Term:
BUSI 1312 – Introduction to Financial Accounting – (1 section) (In-person) | M (5:30 - 8:30 PM)
Students are introduced to the purposes, objectives, concepts and processes of financial accounting. The course focus is on the preparation and reporting of economic information about the organization to external users. The uses and limitations of this information for external users are also considered.
BUSI 1334 - Foundations of Marketing – (1 section) (In-person) |M & W (7:00 PM – 8:30 PM)
Introduces the foundational concepts and theories that underpin the field of marketing. Students will gain an understanding of the role of marketing within organizations and society, the evolution of marketing thought, and the key elements of the marketing environment. Core topics include consumer behavior, market segmentation, positioning, and the marketing mix (product, price, place, and promotion). Emphasizes the formulation and implementation of marketing strategy.
BUSI 1356 – Quantitative Analysis II – (1 section) (In-person) | TH (5:30 PM - 8:30 PM)
Builds upon the concepts in Business 1336. Topics include linear and nonlinear programs and regression analysis. Bivariate and multivariate relationships will be examined. The importance of choosing the appropriate analytical techniques is emphasized. Students will be expected to use various software programs to assist in producing quantitative analysis to support business decisions.
BUSI 2312 – Managerial Accounting – (1 section) (In-person) | T (5:30 PM - 8:30 PM)
Emphasizes the need for managers to understand the major concepts of accounting for managerial decision-making in private and public sector organizations. The preparation and use of management accounting information for planning and control proposes is examined. Students consider the behavioural and ethical implications of decisions using case studies.
BUSI 3019 – Corporate Finance for Business Managers – (1 section) (In-person) | TH (5:30 PM - 8:30 PM)
Focuses on the application of corporate financial theories from the perspective of business managers. The analyses of problems, mini-cases, and assigned cases are a dominant feature of this course. Topics covered include capital budgeting, valuation, risk analysis, cost of capital, capital structure, dividend policy, raising capital, and mergers and acquisitions.
BUSI 3310 – Data and Information Management – (1 section) (In-person) | T (5:30 PM - 8:30 PM)
An introduction to the core concepts of data and information management, fundamentals of database management, design, implementation, and administration. Entity relationship model and structured query language will be discussed. Applied current tools to manage different data types, data cleaning and preparation, and data manipulation.
BUSI 3330 – Governance, Ethics, and Indigenous Business – (1 section) (In-person) | M & W (7:00 PM - 8:30 PM)
Examines topics on governance, ethics, and Indigenous business. Indigenous topics include: treaties and government legislation and their impact on Indigenous organizations, nations, and communities; business policy developments and practices related to Indigenous management; and economic, cultural, political, and legal considerations that affect Indigenous organizations, nations, and communities, and non-Indigenous partners.
BUSI 4336 – Managing Technology Innovation – (1 section) (In-person) | M & W (1:00 PM - 2:30 PM)
Provides an overview of the theory and practice of technological innovation. Deliberately combines strategic issues and organizational and managerial issues. Highlights the interfaces between specialized R&D and all other functions that allow organizations to continuously generate and commercialize innovations. Students will study the relationship between processes and structures for innovation in firms, the strategies for exploitation and the environment in which these must be designed, e.g., competition, rate of technological change, sources of innovation.

Qualifications Preferred:
The ideal candidate will have either:
A PhD in a field related to the course, or
A master’s degree in a related field and relevant professional experience and/or designation.
Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred.
Candidates lacking the specific degree qualification, but who possess an appropriate combination of academic and professional experience may be considered.
Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired.
Compensation
In accordance with Collective Agreement provisions, Contract Lecturers shall be remunerated at one of the three following levels:
Level 1: $8,355 (per HCE)
Level 2: $8,590 (per HCE)
Level 3: $9,059 (per HCE)
