Strong Password Standard

Creating a Strong Password
A strong password is your first line of defense against unauthorized access to your account. Please review our requirements and recommendations below to ensure your account remains secure.

Password Requirements
Your new password must meet the following technical specifications:

  • Length: Must be between 12 and 128 characters. We strongly encourage using 15 or more characters for maximum security.
  • Characters: Standard ASCII characters only (letters, numbers, and standard symbols).
  • Spaces: Spaces are allowed and encouraged (e.g., between words), but your password cannot start or end with a space.
  • Breach Check: To protect you from known threats, your password will be checked against a database of previously compromised passwords. If it appears on any known breach lists, it will be rejected, and you will be asked to choose a different one.

Tips for a Stronger Password
Securing your account doesn't mean you have to create a confusing jumble of characters that you'll immediately forget.

Use a Passphrase
Instead of a single word with random numbers (like Password123!), use a passphrase. Combine 4 or more random, unrelated words into a short sentence or phrase.

  • Weak: Elephant7! (Short, easy for a computer to guess)
  • Strong: Correct Horse Battery Staple (Long, incredibly difficult for a computer to crack, but easy for you to remember)

What to Avoid

  • Common patterns: Sequential numbers (12345), keyboard rows (qwerty), or repetitive characters (aaaaaa).
  • Personal information: Your name, birthday, pet's name, or company name. Attackers can easily find this information on social media.
  • Recycling: Never reuse a password from another website. If that website gets hacked, attackers will try that same password on all your other accounts

Pro-Tip: Consider using a reputable Password Manager (like 1Password, Bitwarden, or Dashlane). It can generate completely random, unique 15+ character passwords for all your accounts and store them securely so you don't have to remember them.
