Minimum Computer Requirements

To ensure compatibility across all technology services the Technology Services Centre (TSC) has set the following minimum standards related to the purchase of new desktop and laptop computers for Faculty and Staff. Systems purchased that do not meet these minimum requirements will not be supported by the TSC.

Mandatory Minimum Requirements (WINDOWS)

•  Intel Core Ultra 5 or AMD Equivalent (or better)
•  16 GB of RAM
•  512 GB SSD
•  Ability to disable secure boot
•  One year full hardware warranty (3 year warranty recommended) 

Operating Systems

All Lakehead University Windows Computers will be loaded with Windows 11 Education 64bit and Active Directory services.

Mandatory Minimum Requirements (Apple)

•  M1 Processor or better (M4 preferred)
•  16 GB of RAM
•  512 GB SSD
• Apple Care (3 year recommended)

All Lakehead Apple computers should be capable of running current the Operating System. Apple systems will need to be running no operating system below Sonoma for security reasons.
