 Irene, (She/Her), MSW, RSW
My name is Irene Pugliese and I am the Manager of Wellness Services at Student Health and Wellness, Thunder Bay campus.  I joined the Student Health and Wellness team more than 10 years ago as a part-time counsellor.  Currently, I provide counselling services as well as coordinate counselling and health promotion programs.  I have a Master of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and I practice from a client-centred framework with a focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness-based interventions.  I also have a strong interest in Resilience habits and facilitate brief "WellU Resilience" sessions to promote the uptake of these habits.
Holly, (she/her), MSW, RSW
My name is Holly Maki, I am a mental health counsellor here at Student Health and Wellness, Lakehead University.  I joined the Student Health and Wellness team as a part-time counsellor in November 2020.  As a now full-time counsellor, I currently provide individual counselling and will be offering mindfulness sessions throughout the academic year. I have a Master of Social Work degree from Lakehead University and have over eight years of experience working within education settings as a school social worker.  I practice primarily through a mindfulness lens supporting clients with interventions and approaches that are client-centred, strengths-based and trauma and attachment informed.
Alexa, (she/her) MSW, RSW
Thank you for taking the time to check out my bio. As a counsellor I strive to ensure clients feel listened to, understood, and that therapy is centred on their unique goals and values. Prior to working at Lakehead, I worked with children, youth and young adults, both in a clinical setting as well as through youth outreach work and within the foster care system. My therapeutic approach draws from narrative practice, mindfulness-based CBT, internal family systems, ACT and somatic-based approaches. I am particularly passionate about supporting those with experiences of intimate partner violence, trauma, sexual assault, PTSD, family dynamics and 2SLGBTQ+ folks. Additionally, I am trained through Rainbow Health Ontario to provide a secondary assessment in support of those seeking transition-related surgeries and to provide gender-affirming counselling services.

Counsellors

Skye Casey (she/her), MA, RP
My name is Skye and I am a Registered Psychotherapist. I utilize a compassion-focused and strengths-based approach in my practice with clients. I believe that as we begin to hold ourselves more kindly and let go of the fight with our feelings, we can open up and take committed action towards living a rich and meaningful life. I hope that in our work together I can provide you with empathetic and supportive sessions to facilitate the process of internal change. I valued meeting with a counsellor periodically throughout my undergraduate and graduate degrees and hope to provide some of you with that same sort of space.

My name is Sarah Fiorini-Taylor, and I am a registered psychotherapist. I value that as clients, your mental health journey is personal and unique to you, and I am there to walk alongside you and provide support and tools to help you reach your end goal. You know yourself best and what works or doesn’t work for you, and my wish is that I can stir reflection and pull out that inner knowledge to put into practice while we work together to give you confidence in your healing journey, whatever that healing may look like to you. I believe that I learn from my clients as well, gaining new insights and knowledge to add to my toolbox and past training. I strive to provide a welcome, caring, non-judgmental environment to work in and look forward to helping you on your path to wellbeing.
