Accommodations for Alteration to Date/Time of a Scheduled Test/Exam/Quiz

Some students may have provided medical documentation that supports the need to alter the scheduled date and/or time of a test/exam/quiz to reduce barriers created by the functional limitations related to their disability and/or medical condition. For example;

  • A student is only able to write afternoon tests/exams/quizzes due to the sedating effects of medication; the accommodation is the student requests to write a test regularly scheduled for 8:30 am at 12 pm instead.

  • A student has provided medical documentation specifically stating they need “restorative time” - due to the functional limitations of their disability - between back to back assessments.  The accommodation is the student requests to apply restorative time between two tests, requiring that the second test have its start time altered.

  • A student is only able to write one test/exam/quiz a day; if two or more tests/exams/quizzes are scheduled on the same day the accommodation is the student requests to move one or more tests/exams/quizzes to subsequent days so they only have one test/exam/quiz per day.

Time of Day Restrictions

The accommodation letter will state the specifics of the time of day restriction the student has provided medical documentation supporting.

Accommodation Wording Example: Time of Day: No morning tests/exams/quizzes; Student to contact SAS to negotiate in advance.

These accommodations apply to both in person and online tests/exams/quizzes.

Students with this accommodation are responsible for making their request to access the accommodation to SAS.

SAS will communicate regarding test/exam/quiz details with the instructor.

Students are to write the same day as the originally scheduled test/exam/quiz (if possible).

  • If the student is unable to write the same day as the original test/exam/quiz SAS will confirm the reason for the delay (ie. other course conflicts) and determine the next available time for the student to write the test/exam/quiz.
  • SAS will propose the student's next available time to the instructor and work with them to coordinate the writing of the test/exam/quiz.

For academic integrity reasons:

  • Instructors may provide a different test/exam/quiz from the test written at the original date.
  • Instructors may communicate to SAS other stipulations that the student is required to adhere to.
  • SAS will ensure any integrity stipulations are organized and coordinated for the assessment.
