Experiential Learning Accommodations

Experiential Learning (EL) supports students in gaining hands-on learning that helps them transition to the workforce. Experiential Learning includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Field Experience

  • Field Placement

  • Internship

  • Professional Practicum

  • Labs

Please visit the Lakehead University experiential learning web page for a complete list of the different types of experiential learning recognized by Lakehead University.

Students that require accommodations in classroom and testing settings may also require accommodations to reduce barriers in Experiential Learning settings. These accommodations would be based upon the impacts of the functional limitations of their disability and/or medical condition. Not all students registered with SAS will require accommodations for Experiential Learning.

Accommodations for Experiential Learning are unique and individual and created in consultation with the student's faculty, program and/or community partner/organization. Instructors with questions about these accommodations should contact the student's SAS Advisor, listed on the bottom of the accommodation letter.

In some cases certain accommodations in Experiential Learning may not be possible, as demonstration of mandatory skills are an essential component of the course and/or program. These situations will be considered on a case by case basis.
