Reporting Scholarships, Bursaries & Awards to OSAP

When applying for OSAP, you may have also applied to other scholarships, bursaries, and awards both internally (i.e. Lakehead University funding), or externally. Should you receive any additional funding outside of OSAP, this typically needs to be reported on your OSAP application to ensure that your OSAP entitlement is accurate. Below, you can find information on what needs to be reported, and how to do so!

Lakehead Scholarships, Bursaries & Awards

Any scholarships, awards, and/or bursaries that you receive from Lakehead directly will be automatically reported to your OSAP application. For example, you do not need to report the following:

  • Entrance Scholarships
  • Transfer/Mature Student Bursary
  • Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS)
  • Scholarships, Awards, or Bursaries awarded through the myAwards portal
What do I do if I accidentally reported a scholarship, bursary, or award I received (or will receive) from Lakehead?

Submit a signed and dated letter to your OSAP portal indicating the error that was made on the OSAP application and include the correct value that should be reported. If we are unable to verify the information, we may request an affidavit to confirm (see template).

If you are unable to upload to the OSAP portal, you can send your letter/proof to Student Central via email at studentcentral@lakeheadu.ca.

External Scholarships, Bursaries & Awards

Scholarships, awards, and bursaries received from agencies other than Lakehead University need to be reported on your OSAP application as they may affect your funding amount.

This should be identified under the section entitled “Income Received During Study Period" in the item labeled “Scholarships, bursaries and/or awards you expect to receive from study start date to study end date”.

What do I do if I receive an external award after submitting my OSAP Application?

Simply upload a letter to the OSAP portal with the details of the awards (value, where it’s coming from, etc.) that is signed and dated. Please also include proof that you will be receiving the scholarship or bursary (ex. letter of approval from the organization).

If you are unable to upload to the OSAP portal, you can send your letter/proof to Student Central via email at studentcentral@lakeheadu.ca.
