- Counselling services are available to students on Tuesdays in the Wellness Centre, and virtually throughout the week. By appointment only.
- NP and Counselling services are both very busy right now, but appointment availability is reasonable/where it usually would be at this time of year (between 1-2 weeks)
- Naturopathic Doctor and Chiropractor services are both available at the Wellness Centre 1 day/week. These are fee-based services. (New: staff and faculty can book appointments with chiro and naturopathic doctor)
- Flu shot clinics are scheduled for Thursday Oct 30th from 9am - 2:40pm at both the Wellness Centre and Heritage Place. Open to students, faculty, and staff. Book an appointment in advance to save your spot. Drop-ins will be accommodated where possible.
- Health Promotion - Trends and training opportunities
- Trends: we're getting to that time of year where student stress increases (including financial stress), so our programming has lots of focus on mental health and food security. Plus, safer substance use programming around Halloween.
- Naloxone Training: Wednesday, Oct 7th, 2:30 - 3:15 pm in OA. Free and open to students, faculty, and staff. Learn to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose
- Standard First Aid w/ CRP Level C (Blended): Saturday, Oct 25th in OA. 8:30 am - 5 pm. Open to students, faculty, and staff. Cost = $195.
- Reminder that Student Health and Wellness does classroom visits, if instructors would like us to share information with students (stress management info, resources available, etc.). Our full list of presentations/training can be found here
- Health and Counselling Services
- Injury and Accident Report-
- Staff
- None to report at this time
- Students
- Student Affairs is following up on the following situation: Students were provided the opportunity during a Fiel School trip to leave the research site by way of their own vehicles to find an alternative site. There was a slight disagreement regarding the location of the site for a group, which resulted in some aggressive diving being reported. The result of such a scenario is that Field Schools are no longer permitting alternate research sites
- Sports
- Chris Glover: Some minor injuries reported related to soccer, such as concussion and lower body injuries (knee, leg, foot) that occurred at Rotary Place or on the road at another school/sports facility. All students injured are receiving treatment through local facilities and some may have accessibility requests with the Student Accessibility Centre – Chris confirmed no concern for the JHSC, all apart of the sport.
- Incident Reporting Google Form (Online)
- Discussed the online incident reporting system with Tiffany Moore regarding auto forwarding supervisors the incidents (July 2, 2025 notes). Tiffany confirmed the incident reporting tool is a Google Form and we cannot make the process automated to email supervisors copies of incident reports for privacy reasons (ie.if there is a violent incident with a supervisor, the supervisor should not receive the incident report).
- Incident reports should be filled out by all parties who are involved and/or witness the incident
- Staff
- Lab Update
- Routine certifications have been completed, including bio safety, eye wash cleaning and testing, safety showering, and other in-house tests
- Brenda Huska visited the Orillia campus for a bio-safety inspection/audit – no substantial issues were found
- All members of Security have completed laboratory training
- Technical staff are completing lab orientations, which will be communicated to WHMIS and then the Security team to confirm/allow access into the labs
- Note for the lab team: OA has calcium gluconate gel (a research chemical) that needs to be included on the inventory list with expiration date (Brenda will follow up with Chase on this)
- Other Items for Discussion
- Updated Terms of Reference
- Attached in the Agenda email for the JHSC to review and provide feedback
- Orillia JHSC are in agreement about the comments for amendments to the Terms of Reference (all administrative and clarifying the practices that we currently / historically implement but does not have an official written record).
- Katelyn Whitten will make the amendments to the Terms of Reference document to be distributed at the January 2026 meeting.
- Building Inspections Update - T-Bird
- Building inspections have not been completed due to vacancy in HR position.
- It was suggested to schedule a time for when the JHSC would meet to split the building inspection responsibilities and complete them in smaller groups monthly For example, picking a date and time then send out an invite to ensure appropriate members are available
- Updated Terms of Reference
- Meeting Adjourned at 11:47 a.m.
