2. Approval of the Minutes from last JHSC meeting – April 27, 2022  Approver Seconder Moved  Tim Vicki

3. Housekeeping Item:  Vicki TeBrugge is the new Co-Chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.  Thank you Vicki!  Nanda Kanavillil is an interim member of the committee.  Nanda is replacing Sree Kurissery, who is the Acting Dean, Science and Environmental Studies.  Welcome Nanda!

4. COVID 19 Updates 

o No current items to discuss

o For future meetings COVID 19 Updates will remain a standing item in case there are new developments to discuss

5. Items Arising from the Minutes (last meeting) 

● Fire Plan 

o No updates at this time

● Student Health and Wellness

o No updates at this time

● AED at Heritage Place

o John has spoken with Building Owner.  Suggested the location of the AED should be in the corridor across from the Security Office

o In that location it would be accessible to everyone in the building

o The Building Owner would be willing to install the unit once it is purchased

o Follow up with Chris Glover regarding purchasing the unit for the next meeting

6. Injury and Accident Report 

● Staff

o Bookstore – Accident with injury – medical aid.  Employee was reaching to the side of the protective screen at the cash desk to pick up a display box.  Their thumb hit the side of the screen and the edge tore the thumb on the knuckle and the side.  Applied antibiotic gel, gauze, and band aid.  Will tape the side of the screen to help prevent further injuries.

o Employee – Accident with injury – medical aid.  While putting up flag banners outside Simcoe Hall jammed index finger between legs of step ladder causing cut on knuckle of right-hand index finger.  Band aid applied to finger

● Contractors

o Dana Foods – Accident with injury – medical aid:  Was cutting fruit when hand slipped.  They cut their thumb which was bandaged.  In the future will wear cutting cloves

● Students

o None to report

7. Lab Update 

• Quiet in the Lab

• Ongoing research occurring in the Lab

• In process of performing annual review and recertifications

• Equipment certifications and maintenance performed

• Inventory is ongoing

• Performing regular checks

• Field School is starting in late August, 2022 for 3rd and 4th year students

• Labs will be busy in the fall including labs in the evening for the first time

• Evening labs are required as there are many labs to complete

8. Items for Discussion 

• Door Cards

o A vendor has been chosen to correct door card issues 

o Vendor will start to correct issues and complete updates over the next few weeks

o Question was asked about creating new keys for doors.  Physical Plant would like to see if doors will work with cards after the software update before taking further action

o Security has extra keys for the lab that can be signed out if necessary
