3. Student Health and Wellness (Sara Corcoran)

 

Health & Counselling Services

 

  • Services reduced for the Spring/Summer term
    • Nurse Practitioners can be accessed at their unattached patient clinic at the Hospital
    • Counselling can be accessed virtually
    • Chiro can be accessed at their clinic
    • The Naturopathic Doctor is not available over the summer

 

  • All services will return in the fall

 

Health promotion

 

  • CMHA Mental Health Week May 6-10th

 

    • SafeTALK May 6th: Canceled due to insufficient registration - We will be scheduling another one for later in the summer. Can always do them by request if we have a group of at least 10 participants. 
    • Supporting Students in Distress: Virtually on May 7th. This will become a self-serve, online workshop on D2L. In-person and virtual will still be available by request
    • Kindness bracelets: practice some kindness and compassion and learn about some meditation resources. Drop in May 9th 1:30 - 3pm Simcoe Hall
    • Sacred fire hosted by Frazer Phillips, Indigenous Cultural Wellness Facilitator. chance to let go of stress, practice gratitude, and connect with the land. May 9th at 4:30 – 6 pm at Sacred Fire pit.

 

  • Moose Hide Campaign

 

    • Grassroots movement of Indigenous and Non-indigenous men and boys standing up against violence towards women and children. 
    • People can wear a moose hide pin to signify a commitment to honour, respect, and protect the women and children in their lives. Pins are available at security.
    • Moose Hide Campaign Day Event offered in partnership with ONWG and Georgian on May 16th at 4 pm. The event will be an evening in solidarity against gendered violence on Turtle Island, where we’ll drum, sing, walk, and strengthen the community. 

 

 

    • Our summer-long health promotion activity, the 100-hour challenge kicks off on Monday next week.

5. Items Arising from the Minutes (last meeting)

  • Fire Plan  - Initial plan was for Tajinder to sit down with John and finalize. Tiffany confirmed that the current plan is good to go if there are no changes to the fire plan system.

7. Lab Update

Labs have finished for the winter term. Research has started in the labs with Graduate and undergraduate and work-study students. There will be chemistry labs again this summer starting in July and running until the middle of August.

Inventories/ lab materials organization and equipment testing is ongoing in both labs. Biosafety cabinet and Fumehood testing/certification are scheduled for mid-June and July.

One lab water system is under repair and we hope to have these repairs completed and the unit back in place before the start of the summer chemistry labs.
