Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Facilitator in Research

Part-Time Position (2-year contract)

 

 

This role within the Office of Research Services (ORS) at Lakehead University calls for an individual who is passionate about implementing strategies for enhancedEquity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), and has an awareness of current trends and best practices regarding EDI in the workplace; experience implementing EDI best practices in a research and/or an academic environment is an added asset. Reporting to the Director, Research Services, you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of EDI best practices in the research enterprise as set out in the Lakehead University Canada Research Chairs EDI Action Plan and Lakehead University EDI Action Plan (2019-2024: Goal 3). Duties include, but are not limited to:

 

● supporting the integration of EDI best practice requirements into CRC recruitment   processes in order to meet program equity targets, and assessing, including the development and implementation of EDI-related CRC guidelines to meet CRC recruitment requirements;

● supporting CRC recruitment committees in their efforts to reach and attract diverse candidate pools;

● advising researchers on developing and incorporating EDI strategies into their research proposals (ie., team composition, research design, SGBA+ considerations, recruitment processes, community-engagement, etc.), ensuring federal and provincial policies and sponsor guidelines (e.g., Canada Research Chairs Program (CRCP), Tri-Agencies (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR, New Frontiers in Research, etc) are followed;

● assisting with preparation of institutional reports;

● facilitating EDI training programs for CRC recruitment committees, faculty researchers and postdoctoral fellows (ie., EDI in Research Leadership Certificate Program);

● supporting the implementation of other EDI initiatives in the research enterprise; and

● promoting a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization within the research enterprise. 

 

This is a highly collaborative position, calling for a high degree of inter-departmental and external communications expertise to achieve University objectives, as you will be expected to:

● work closely with key stakeholders across the University, such as the Office of Human Rights and Equity, Indigenous Initiatives, Faculty Deans, Departments, researchers, Vice-President Research and Innovation and ORS staff, to support key EDI research initiatives; and

● interact with external organizations and individuals, such as research funding agencies, and other EDI research advisors to ensure that the University is up to date on world-leading organizational practices that support and advance EDI in research, garner and share best practices and resources, and have a forum for seeking input for problem-solving and issue resolution.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

The ideal candidate for the role of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Facilitator in Research will be a relationship builder, team player with strong communication skills, and also have:

● A Master’s degree (preferably research-based) in the social sciences, humanities, business administration or related discipline and a minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience executing numerous priorities and multiple projects of increasing complexity in a research environment (preferable).

● Experience in human resources or in implementing EDI initiatives, and experience working with multiple stakeholders to meet institutional goals.

● A collaborative working style and a demonstrated track record of taking initiative, coordinating complex projects, working in a fast-paced environment and handling multiple, changing priorities simultaneously.

● Strong interpersonal, and communication skills, and the capacity to listen effectively and sensitively to a broad range of diverse stakeholders and partners.

● Excellent time management and organizational skills.

● The ability to masterfully gather and analyze data, assess needs, and deliver practical solutions that drive results.

● Tact and sensitivity in dealing with matters subject to confidentiality and privacy considerations.

● Ability to deliver EDI training programs to researchers and CRC recruitment committees, including unconscious bias training, SGBA+, EDI strategy development, etc.
