Lakehead University Residence consists of dormitory, townhouse and apartment style residences for 1,100 students.  Approximately 400 students are housed in the residence halls and 700 students in the townhouse/apartment complexes.

 

Reporting to the Director of Residence Services, the Manager, Residence Facilities and Operations will be required to adapt to daily operational needs in order to provide consistent, decisive leadership to staff within a unionized environment as well as with non-union staff.  The incumbent will be required to effectively direct and manage all day to day custodial and maintenance activities within the residences including scheduling, quality control and monitoring performance.  The Manager works with internal staff along with other departments on campus and off-campus contractors to coordinate repairs, capital projects, and various vendors ordering supplies and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy living and work environment for staff, students and guests and ensuring student and guest satisfaction with regards to Maintenance, Housekeeping, Front Desk operations, and Food & Conferences.

 

The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education in a related field with 5 years of experience in a managing or supervising role. The incumbent must have the ability to work in a union and non-union environment which includes working within the parameters of contracts and collective agreements. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required for dealing with a diverse population including students, staff, clients and external services. The incumbent must be familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHIMIS, Employment Standards Act and Ministry of Labour regulations. Proficiency with computer applications is required. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and understanding of security issues such as key control, access control, fire regulations and the Residential Tenancies Act.
