Reporting to the Manager of Web Development, the Web Designer (International Enrolment Initiatives) is responsible for the creation, implementation, and optimization of user-centered design solutions that enhance strategic enrolment initiatives. 

Overall the Web Designer is responsible for creating and maintaining the information architecture, developing and assisting with content placement and enhancements, as well as providing graphic creative to facilitate effective communication on the Lakehead University website.

 

Job Requirements:

• Requires a diploma, certification, or degree preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Web Development, Web Design, or combination of relevant education and experience.

• Preferred minimum of two years’ experience working in a post-secondary education setting

• Proficient with web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript

• Proficient with website design and management

• Familiarity with latest developments in web-based best practices and W3C Standards

• Familiarity with provincial standards for accessibility and working with individuals with

  disabilities (AODA)

• Must have knowledge about production techniques for a website, including

   User-Centred Design, storyboard development, information architecture, document

   analysis and site analysis (to maintain logical site organization)

• Must be familiar with the Drupal Content Management System (CMS)

• Should be familiar with MS Word, Excel, PDF, E-mail, and Adobe Suite - in

   particular Photoshop and InDesign

• Must demonstrate excellent graphic design skills

• Able to write for the web in a fashion that speaks to the target audience

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to implement effective customer service systems

• Ability to manage workload and prioritize to meet deadlines

• Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations, and

  other health and safety related legislation and standards
