About this Job

Reporting directly to the Director, Career Services and Co-op, the Career Services & Co-op Officer is responsible for supporting the administration, implementation and assessment of career services programming at Lakehead University’s Orillia campus. This includes organizing and implementing a range of employment-related events (industry networking events, career fairs, community outreach and employer presentations), as well as providing direct support to students seeking assistance with their career goals. The Career Services & Co-op Officer supports student and graduate employment and career skills development, with a focus on furthering Lakehead University’s goals of equity, diversity and inclusion, promoting positive employment experiences, and improved career outcomes. This in turn supports graduate employment rates and salaries, as well as student satisfaction with the outcomes of their university experience.

 

Job Duties

  • Develop and deliver interactive and dynamic workshops, activities, and presentations to support students to build skills, identify their strengths, and prepare for career success
  • Provide services and support to students in person, via telephone, video conferencing in one-to-one as well as in group settings
  • Coordinate events, including scheduling and maintaining communication with speakers, vendors, and participants; coordinating and monitoring event timelines, budgets, and all event logistics, marketing and promotion of event to multiple audiences, production and distribution of materials for guests/participants and identifying ways to continuously improve our employment fairs and career services events
  • Recruit and train volunteer and student employees in support of career services activities (resume review, event support, etc.)
  • Support and assist the Director to cultivate and establish close relationships with local and regional employers in sectors connected to Lakehead’s academic programs, onboarding new employers to Lakehead’s career services
  • Represent Lakehead as an ambassador in the community and on campus during events for current and future students.
  • Other duties in support of campus activities, career services, and co-op programming as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Completion of a related university degree, paired with at least 1 to 2 years of experience in a role related to student success, career development and employment, marketing, student recruitment, and/or adult education and training.
  • An outstanding communicator with demonstrated public presentation skills both in person and virtually.
  • Proficiency in advanced levels of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and publishing programs and laptop technology.
  • Possess excellent time management, data management and organizational abilities with a strong independent work ethic.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster, develop and maintain successful working relationships with multiple audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to support the successful execution of events for multiple partners and audiences.
  • Previous experience with successful revenue generation (fundraising, business development) is an asset.
  • Sensitivity to privacy issues and a flexible work schedule is expected for this position.
  • Class G drivers license is an asset but is not required.
