About this Job

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, the Conference Coordinator is responsible for providing conference (in person, virtual and hybrid), special event, and group consulting as well as planning and coordinating services to all user groups. Specific duties include compiling event details, negotiating contracts, confirming internal and external events with clients, submitting set-up, catering, parking and technical services requests, and virtual event services (webinar & meeting moderation, virtual conference set up and troubleshooting).

 

Job Duties

  • Performs mechanical maintenance work through the University’s computerized work order

system.

  • Inspects, investigates and solves problems related to the operation of both the mechanical

systems and equipment, providing technical advice as necessary.

  • Performs skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level.
  • Provides estimates of work for repairs to mechanical systems on campus.
  • Makes necessary reports and keeps records and files as required of work orders, requisition,

upgrades and changes to systems etc.

  • Takes every precaution reasonable in the circumstance for the protection of workers in his

charge.

  • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and safety Act, with other health and safety

related legislation and standards, and with such workplace practices as outlined by his immediate supervisor.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned from time to time.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum grade 12 education.
  • Several years of directly related journeyman experience in a Maintenance position.
  • Must possess a valid journeyman license, certificate of qualification in but not limited to: Plumber, refrigeration, and air conditioning mechanic, sheet metal worker, and steamfitter.
  • Must possess a valid gasfitter 2 certificate or greater.
  • Preferred to have current Ozone Depletion Prevention Certificate (ODP)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence.
  • Knowledge of recognized practices and techniques and the use of tools, equipment and

instruments common to the Mechanical Trades.

  • Ability to install, overhaul and adjust systems from sketches, blueprints of specifications: ability to prepare sketches and/or diagrams for blueprints.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the theory and operation of pneumatic and electrical

controls as well as a working knowledge of the theory, principles and operation of heating,

ventilating and air conditioning system, refrigeration, plumbing and steam fitting.

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to do heavy physical labour on occasion and to work on ladders, scaffolds, lift devices and in crawl spaces etc.
  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and other health and safety related legislation and standards.
