Training Courses Offered by the Paleo-DNA Laboratory

PDNA-7001 Virtual DNA Skills Training Course

This is an on-line virtual laboratory-based training course designed to show students the fundamentals of molecular techniques including DNA extraction, amplification (using PCR), sequencing, fragment analysis and interpretation. This 10 week on-line course showcases theory and training in DNA methodologies such as gel and capillary electrophoresis, multiplex PCR, real-time PCR and the use of the ABI 3130xl genetic analyzer and ABI 7000 real time PCR equipment. A Non-Credit Transcript will be issued by Lakehead University and a Certificate of Participation will be issued by the Paleo-DNA Laboratory.

PDNA-7002 Practical DNA Skills Training Course (Institution MOU sponsored students e.g. University of Benin (Nigeria) Post-Graduate Diploma Course in Forensic DNA Analysis)

This is an intensive two week hands-on DNA Skills Training Course. Participants will perform the fundamentals of molecular techniques including DNA extraction, amplification (using PCR), sequencing and interpretation on a variety of tissue types. Other techniques covered in the lab sessions include gel and capillary electrophoresis, column chromatography, centrifugation, pipetting, and the use of the ABI 3130xl automated sequencer and ABI 7000 real time PCR equipment. A Non-Credit Transcript will be issued by Lakehead University and a Certificate of Participation will be issued by the Paleo-DNA Laboratory.
