Asbestos Audit and Air Sampling

Please be advised that the 2026 Asbestos Audit and Air Sampling Program will begin on October 13, 2026.

This program is conducted as part of Lakehead University’s Asbestos Management Plan and consists of two components:

  • Visual inspection: A visual inspection of asbestos-containing materials throughout campus to assess and document their current condition.

  • Air Sampling: Air sampling will be conducted in the Centennial Building, University Centre, and Ryan Building.

Englobe Engineering and Consulting will be conducting this year’s audit and will be on campus beginning the morning of October 13, 2026. Englobe representatives will carry appropriate identification and will require access to most areas of campus, including classrooms, laboratories, offices, storage areas, and mechanical rooms.

Please be advised that staff may need to briefly enter occupied spaces as part of the inspection process. We appreciate your cooperation in providing access and helping ensure the audit can be completed safely and efficiently.

Tentative Inspection Schedule

The current tentative schedule is outlined below. Please continue to check for updates, as dates and locations may change depending on progress.

  • Bartley Residence – common areas, storage areas, mechanical rooms, and unoccupied rooms

October 15

  • Prettie Residence – common areas, storage areas, mechanical rooms, and unoccupied rooms

October 16–19

  • Grounds Building
  • Sanders Fieldhouse
  • Powerhouse and Service Tunnels
  • Avila Centre
  • Braun Building

October 20–22

  • Centennial Building

October 23 and 26

  • University Centre

October 27

  • School of Nursing
  • Chancellor Paterson Library
  • Ryan Building

October 28

  • Ryan Building – only if the inspection was not completed on October 27
  • Bora Laskin Building
  • LU Radio
  • Lot 5 House
  • Pottery House

October 29

  • Greenhouse
  • PACI
