Research Assistant

The overall purpose of the Research Assistant job position is to coordinate and manage various clinical research projects to ensure they stay organized and on-track. Duties for this position include maintaining study documents for Health Canada (HC), and the Research Ethichs Boards (REBs) at Lakehead University (LU) and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute (TBRHRI), obtaining annual REB renewal approvals for clinical research projects, and ensuring study documents are updated as appropriate. Additionally, the Research Assistant will coordinate participants and research staff, including Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs), a medical radiation technologist (MRT), respiratory therapists (RTs), engineer, graduate students, and postdoctoral researcher to perform clinical research experiments. This position is expected to allow clinical research experiments, data collection and analysis, and result dissemination throughout the research community to be accomplished in an organized and efficient manner.

 

Duties

 

  • Maintain and keep up-to-date various documents and site files for each study
  • This includes budgets and finances, annual REB renewal approvals and regulatory documents (amendments, screening and monitoring documents, etc) for LU and the TBRHRI, and HC clinical trial related documents for investigational medical devices and substances
  • Schedule weekly group meetings with lab team members
  • Coordinate with administrative assistants, study and grant collaborators, various institutional and academia personnel, and others to determine appropriate dates and times for meetings
  • Ensure all lab team members complete the appropriate lab safety training
  • Collect contact information from individuals who are interested in participating in research studies, and forward to the clinical research services department (CRSD) at the TBRHRI.
  • Other duties include assisting with preparing annual reports, and maintaining the lab website

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Excellent written, oral, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organization, time-management, and multi-tasking skills while working in a fast-paced environment with a high research output.
  • Excellent computer skills and a thorough understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Adobe, Zoom, Google Calendars, LU and TBRHRI online applications, etc.
