Lakehead University is looking for enthusiastic candidates to join the Student Health and Wellness (SHW) team to lead Student Wellness initiatives at the Orillia Campus. Under the supervision of the Director, Student Health and Wellness, the Student Wellness Coordinator will use a holistic and integrated approach to work with students, staff, faculty, practitioners, and community partners to implement the vision and mission of SHW.  As the primary point of contact, the Coordinator provides leadership and administrative support to SHW, managing the day-to-day needs of the Health Practitioner Services Operation, and implements Wellness Programs including the SHW Health Promotion Strategy. To be effective in this role, the Coordinator relies heavily on strong relationships with members of the Student Affairs Team, staff and faculty, student employees, and critical external partnerships.

 

DUTIES

 

  • Advises on student health concerns, organizes events and promotional campaigns and intervenes as appropriate, proactively, and in response to a wide range of student health concerns.
  • Supports the provision of accessible medical and mental health services and health promotion programming for students.
  • Meets the changing needs of students, and evolves the department in adapting to meet department goals, student needs, and address challenges.
  • Recruits and supervises qualified and skilled staff to support the activities of the department, including any departmental employees and student workers/volunteers.
  • Oversees and ensures timely intake and appropriate scheduling/referral of student services/inquiries and appointments.
  • Oversees schedules, payments, and promotions for service provider services
  • Effectively supports personal and social development by providing students with access to information, education for health, and programming to strengthen life skills.
  • Recruits, hires, and trains Peer Wellness Educator students to help facilitate health education and wellness programming

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Undergraduate degree in health, social sciences or a related field preferred
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience in health care, wellness, or a related field, with a focus on service delivery and service excellence
  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality of personal health information
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of privacy and confidentiality and the relevant legislation (i.e., PHIPA)
  • Good understanding of current and emerging issues concerning student health, mental health, and wellness.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to calmly and effectively communicate to persons in need of support
  • Proficiency in advanced levels of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and publishing programs
  • Proficiency in social media platforms for promotion and communication.
