Primarily an 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift, Monday to Friday.

When required, hours of work and location may be modified to suit the needs of the University

 

DUTIES:

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled work relative to the maintenance and repair of University buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles.
  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in trades such as carpentry and general construction, painting, locksmithing and door and hardware repairs, welding and masonry work;
  • Report to the leadhand in Building Maintenance and assist in the solution of problems related to the operation and usage of the Physical Plant buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles;
  • Maintain appropriate work records;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

•   Grade 12 education and completion of tradesman qualifications as a carpenter. Commercial hardware and locksmith experience;

•   Several years of directly related experience of recognized practices of a particular trade;

•   Knowledge of recognized practices and techniques and the use of tools, equipment common to the trade;

•   Lifting of 100 lbs on a regular basis;

•   Ability to perform heavy manual work and to work on ladders, scaffolds, etc.

•   Climbing of ladders on a regular basis;

•   Good hand dexterity (pinning for locksmith work);

•   Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;

•   Possess a valid driver’s license;

•   Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and other health and safety regulations and standards;

•   Ability to follow oral and written instructions;

•   Ability to work with minimum supervision;

•   Ability to deal courteously with staff, students and the general public;

•   Must have a good employment record;

•   Must have a good record of attendance and punctuality;
