Primarily an 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. shift, Monday to Friday.

When required, hours of work may be modified to suit the needs of the University.

 

 

Lakehead University has an immediate opportunity for employment within the Technology Services Centre.  Under the general supervision of the Manager of Server, Desktop & Client Services, the Cyber Security Administrator is responsible for the operation, application, investigation, and enforcement of all IT Security systems and policy for Lakehead University. The incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of technologies including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, remote access, and vulnerability management tools to ensure the availability, integrity and confidentiality of University data, systems, and resources.

 

  The incumbent will have a broad understanding of network, server and workstation security concepts and be able to effectively communicate them to a wide variety of audiences. They will provide input and assistance to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the Office of Risk Management as required. They will help to support the strategic direction and initiatives of The Technology Service Centre as well as provide security subject matter expertise to all levels within the university community.

 

As part of team responsible for cyber security, the successful candidate will be responsible for Vulnerability Management, Security Incident Response (breach detection and forensics), Security Infrastructure Management (Firewalls/VPN/IPS), reviewing anti-malware alerts and threat feeds to determine potentially compromised devices and follow-up with the appropriate system owner. Identifying areas of risk within University and third-party systems that may lead to the possibility of being attacked and remediation of found vulnerabilities. Education, awareness, and continual training with stakeholders is also a key component within this role.

 

The successful candidate has post-secondary education in a related field. Any combination of one or more of the following professional designations is preferred:  CEH, GSEC, OSCP, CCNP Security, Security+, CISSP. Knowledge of TCP/IP, encryption fundamentals, firewall/VPN/IPS systems, vulnerability management, mobile device management, current and emerging threats, and knowledge of information security standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS are desired.
