Under the general direction of the Vice Provost Teaching and Learning, the Educational Media Specialist conceptualizes, plans and produces (1) quality digital media for learning in technology-enabled spaces, showcasing Lakehead University’s teaching and learning community, and Teaching Commons specific purposes (i.e. training, online resources, marketing, communication, programs, website and special projects); (2) consults with Lakehead University programs, instructors and their students to find creative solutions to meet their teaching and learning goals using graphics, illustrations, digital and interactive media, and audio (i.e. appropriate uses of media in teaching and learning contexts; where to find media resources or exemplars); (3) conducts one-on-one consultations with instructors and facilitates group training sessions on how to create media for teaching and learning using common software applications; and (4) maintains currency in trends and best practices in multimedia principles that impact teaching and learning, and professional and consumer used media development and delivery applications.
Your degree in a related field is complemented by experience designing and creating original multimedia at an advanced level. Good working knowledge of scripting and coding languages, complimented by your ability to use illustration, and video editing software (such as those within the Adobe Creative Suite) will help you to support instructors in creating media for learning, that integrates appropriate digital content in ways that engage and connect learners. Additionally, through your experience you can demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and the creation of educational materials that are culturally responsive and inclusive of a diverse learner.
An excellent communicator, you have strong presentation, customer-service, interpersonal, and time-management skills. You can work to tight deadlines in a courteous and cooperative manner with staff members at various levels of knowledge and ability. This also provides you with the necessary skill to develop and deliver training in the use of different types of educational media development processes, primarily to instructor audiences.
