Reporting to the Director of Human Rights and Equity, the Coordinator, Sexual Violence Prevention and Education is tasked with implementing both sexual violence prevention and response activities and general human rights education and outreach initiatives.

 

The Coordinator will receive and triage sexual violence concerns and complaints, conduct investigations, as well as develop and provide information and training to prevent sexual violence on campus.  This position must be able to effectively consult and work with several departments across the University in order to develop and facilitate training on sexual violence prevention, bystander intervention and key human rights areas.   The ability to receive complaints and disclosures and perform case management as well as to perform initial inquiries in cases as directed by the Director is a requirement of this role.  Additional responsibilities include providing orientation on the Office of Human Rights and Equity and supporting various communities and groups at Lakehead University.  The Coordinator’s computer proficiency is utilized in the creation and dissemination of human rights promotional materials and maintaining the website content to support all users of Lakehead University and its campuses.

 

The successful candidate will have a university degree that demonstrates education in social justice, human rights, social work, law, psychology or another related field coupled with two (2) years experience in sexual violence education and prevention, investigation, and case management.  Additional qualifications include the demonstrated ability to develop and implement curriculum, presentations and training for diverse audiences, particularly young adults, as well as a working knowledge and understanding of sexual violence and the needs and rights of marginalized communities.  The Coordinator’s strong interpersonal skills are demonstrated through the ability to conduct one-on-one counselling sessions as well as public speaking.  Working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Ontario Human Rights Code, as well as sound judgment and the ability to analyze and research causes of sexual violence and its impact are a must in this role.  A demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression or human rights work is also key to this role.
