Reporting to the Marketing Director with a dotted line to the Principal, Orillia Campus, this position is responsible for helping to achieve the marketing and communications objectives of Lakehead University through providing a collaborative and coordinated approach to both our internal and external audiences. This position is responsible for managing the Digital Media Officer (Orillia) and for implementing the University’s marketing and communications objectives and goals as they relate across the organization and with respective departments. The Associate will oversee day-to-day activities, set priorities, foster relationships, and provide strategic direction and advice.

The successful candidate will possess post-secondary education in marketing, communication, journalism, public relations or in a related field. Completion of a University Degree is preferred. They will have at least 5 years of experience developing and implementing marketing and communications plans and activities, preferably within a post-secondary or not-for-profit setting. Experience in writing corporate communications, advertising and marketing, and preparing media relations materials is required as is extensive editorial experience with print and electronic communications.

The candidate has proven expertise developing and implementing integrated communications plans for multiple audiences; demonstrates knowledge of communications and marketing concepts and principles, with an ability to incorporate both traditional and new communications technologies in initiatives; superior verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement; able to provide oversight of use of digital marketing and social media platforms; strong organizational skills combined with an ability to coordinate and host special events; leadership skills and able to provide direction as the subject matter expert in leading communications and marketing on Campus; demonstrates ability to build relationships; is adaptable and works well in a busy environment with multiple demands while maintaining tact and diplomacy; and has strong computer skills with ability to use professional design software; and possesses photography and graphic design skills.
