A 12-month, full time technician positions is available in the Department of Biology. The successful incumbent will provide support for laboratories in required and elective undergraduate courses for multiple academic programs inside and outside of the Department and are a primary resource for increasing our students' understanding of biological concepts. As such, our technicians work closely with faculty and are crucial parts of Lakehead Biology's student-centred learning environment. They are also responsible for ensuring the safety of our students during laboratory work.

This position will support upper-year ecology and evolution based courses, including Evolution of Vertebrates, Mammalogy, Bryophytes and Lichens, and Ornithology, as well as serve as curator of the Claude Garton Herbarium (http://www.lkhdherbarium.ca). We are thus seeking someone with a broad interest in animal and plant natural history in and beyond Northwestern Ontario. Professional certification such as Certified Wildlife Biologist is an asset.

In addition to course preparation and support, Biology technicians also perform community service, outreach and administrative duties, including training undergraduate and graduate students as teaching assistants.

Applicants must possess an MSc or PhD in Biology or a related science and teaching and other experience relevant to the courses they will support. They must also be willing to work flexible hours both in the lab and in the field, be comfortable interacting with students and be able to deal with ambiguity and tight deadlines.
