Maintenance Skilled Trades
Overview
Reporting to the Facilities manager the Maintenance Skilled Trades role is responsible for ensuring that buildings, equipment, and systems remain in good working condition.
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled and semi-skilled work relative to the maintenance and repair of university
- buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles
- Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in trades such as carpentry and general construction,
- painting, locksmithing and door and hardware repairs, welding and masonry work.
- Report to the lead hand in Building Maintenance and assist in the solution of problems related
- to the operation and usage of the Physical Plant buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles.
- Maintains appropriate work records.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 education and completion of tradesman qualifications as a carpenter. Commercial hardware and locksmith experience.
- Several years of directly related experience of recognized practices of a particular trade
- Knowledge of recognized practices and techniques and the use of tools, equipment common to
- the trade
- Ability to perform manual work.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to deal courteously with staff, students and the public
- One-person unassisted lifting of 50 lbs. on a regular basis
- Ability to perform heavy manual work and to work on ladders, scaffolds, etc.
- Climbing of ladders on a regular basis
- Good hand dexterity (pinning for locksmith work)
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and other health and safety regulations and standards
- Must have a good employment record
- Must have a good record of attendance and punctuality
