About this Job

Informed by the Student Health and Wellness Health Promotion Strategy, the Health Promoter is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of wellness education and health promotion programming for Lakehead University students.  The health promoter also oversees the Health Promotion Activities Lead and the Peer Wellness Educator roles and, is also responsible for the distribution and analysis of survey data (i.e. NCHA survey, etc.).

 

Job Duties

  • Develop and implement a health promotion strategy including on-going evaluation and quality improvement.
  • Identify program priorities and community needs both within SHW and the larger University community
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver health and wellness activities (i.e. Fall health fair, Bell Let's Talk, harm reduction sessions, Thrive Week, Consent programming, Orientation, etc.)
  • Develop creative and engaging programming to promote Centre services and programming
  • Host and support awareness of community health resources
  • Coordinate a team of students (Peer Wellness Educators and Leads), which includes recruiting applicants each academic year, overseeing work, providing ongoing training, support, evaluation and student leadership development.
  • Provide training and orientation to Peer-based student employees and volunteers
  • Responsible for Student Wellness Advisory Team (SWAT) meetings

 

Qualifications

  • University degree (preferably a Master’s degree) from a recognized university in Kinesiology, Nursing or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in health education or promotion, including experience in planning and delivery of health-related events and educational activities
  • Experience training and leading teams (volunteer or paid positions)
  • Understanding of the health care needs of a diverse post-secondary student population
  • Strong interpersonal skills; advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and social media communication
  • Able to effectively  organize and prioritize work demands, competently manage projects and facilitate meetings
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team

  • Office environment
  • Due to events and the needs of students, ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends
