The Office of Human Resources with Lakehead University is looking for Summer Student to work with our dynamic team!  This is a position is in collaboration with the Summer Employment Opportunities Program, which means we are looking for a current student either starting work within 6-months of graduating from a post-secondary program or returning to school in September. The summer student will be working with talented professionals in Human Resources, working on day-to-day tasks as well as on special project(s) with the team. From Recruitment, Health and Safety, Policy development, Employee engagement initiatives, Labour relations and other Organizational Development projects, the HR student can expect to have exposure to almost all aspects of a wholesome Human Resources function in a University environment.

 

DUTIES

  • Utilize the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to update employee data and improve data integrity
  • Assist with HR lead initiatives related to Employee Wellness and Engagement
  • Work alongside the Recruitment Team to assist with document processing and data entry
  • Gather data and research pertaining to the development of policies and procedures
  • Perform tasks associated with administering HR programs and initiatives
  • Track the submissions of health and safety training progression for new employees and performance evaluations

 

The summer student will have knowledge and expertise in HR policies, procedures, and conflict management, as well as knowledge of general recruitment processes. A good understanding of best practices and current regulations specific to HR is required. Excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, strong decision-making skills, and excellent communication skills are key factors to this role. Proficiency in software such as MS Office and Google Docs are also required. The summer student must live in Ontario and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
