Under the general direction of the Manager, Student Accessibility Services, the Accessibility Advisor will be the primary advisor for a designated caseload of full and part-time students with one or more disabilities and/or medical conditions. The Advisor will work with an academically diverse student population performing an assessment of students’ needs during an initial interview, ensuring that appropriate documentation has been received, reviewing and assessing confidential medical/psychological documentation as well as following up for clarification or further information when required. Additional duties will include developing, recommending, and implementing academic accommodations and strategies based on the individual student’s disability, evaluating and modifying existing accommodations, and assisting the students in self-monitoring the effectiveness of accommodations.

 

The successful candidate has a bachelor’s degree in a discipline relevant to disability issues such as education/psychology and three years of related experience, including an understanding of the strengths and challenges of adults with disabilities and/or medical conditions accompanied with an understanding of disability issues in the post-secondary environment. The incumbent has demonstrated expertise in developing, implementing, and monitoring academic accommodations for adults with disabilities and/or medical conditions, computer proficiency, knowledge of assistive technology, and the ability to advise students in an academic context.
