Lakehead University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director, Student Success within the Office of Student Affairs. Based in picturesque Thunder Bay, the regional capital of Northwestern Ontario which is located in the center of Canada and with close proximity to the United States.

 

The position of Director, Student Success is responsible for the direction, strategic planning, and operations of the Student Success Centre at Lakehead University. This is achieved through the development and implementation of programming aimed at assisting in the retention and satisfaction of students, contributing to their overall experience and success, as well as positively impacting the retention and engagement goals of the University.

 

The role includes oversight of the Student Success Centre (SSC), and operationalization the programming and services that promote student success and retention.  The Director is instrumental in ensuring a successful transition for students coming to Lakehead University for the first time by leading the planning, delivery and assessment of orientation and transition programming across both campuses. This position leads, mentors and supervises staff, including coordinating professional development, to promote student success and retention.

 

The successful candidate should have 5 to 7 years’ progressive leadership experience within a post-secondary environment with a focus on career development, work integrated learning, student services, program development, talent management and community partnerships. The incumbent must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience and commitment to equity and diversity, financial acumen, problem solving, assessment and analytical skills.  The successful candidate must be able to work independently without close supervision in a demanding, fast paced environment.  Candidates should also be familiar with various student development models and theories.
