As a valuable member of the Undergraduate Studies in Education (USE), the Professional Experiences Coordinator, Intermediate/Senior (I/S) Division, coordinates all activities in support of teaching placements, community education and outreach as they relate to the Intermediate/Senior division Teacher Candidates.

 

The Professional Experiences Coordinator clarifies, coordinates, and implements protocols and policies for faculty advisors, teacher candidates, associate teachers, and principals. They will support and mentor I/S faculty advisors, provide professional development opportunities to associate teachers and counsel teacher candidates, including candidates with additional challenges and placement needs. They will work closely with international students, establish and maintain partnerships with schools and NGOs regionally and nationally to provide students with alternative placement opportunities, and liaise regularly with the Chair and administrative team in Undergraduate Studies.

 

DUTIES

 

  • Coordinate and manage practicum components for all I/S division students enrolled in Bachelor of Education degree programs
  • Communicate regularly in person, by email, or phone with I/S Faculty Advisors during placement to support communication and decision making strategies, particularly with difficult placements.
  • Lead three half-day workshops with I/S FAs annually.
  • Coordinate and conduct pre and post practicum meetings with I/S Faculty Advisors (individual and small-group meetings)
  • Liaise with the Chairs to develop and coordinate alternative placements to develop, review, and revise student eligibility criteria, policy and procedures
  • Collaborate with, support, and co-supervise (along with the Chair) the Placement Officer in their role to ensure appropriate placements are secured for students
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver practicum orientation sessions to current and incoming I/S students.
  • Participate in and manage meetings to support students 'at risk', or following terminated placements
  • All other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Extensive knowledge of university education programs, and the field of education
  • Master's Degree in Education or related area an asset
  • Mental Health First Aid training is considered an asset
  • Experience as an administrator in an educational system (e.g. principal, professional development officer, curriculum officer, department head)
  • Experience with special education and/or ELL/ESL
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) due to regular interactions beyond student interactions with school administrators and teachers, potential placement partners, community groups, provincial affiliates, Ontario Ministry of Education, Ontario College of Teachers, faculties of Education, and committee work
  • Effective organizational, time management, planning, creative thinking, conflict management, problem solving, mentoring, and public speaking skills
  • Proficient in Google Workspace and social media platforms
