Reporting to the Manager, Treasury & Ancillary Funds, this position will be responsible for

the overall financial management and daily operations of the University’s two bookstores (Thunder Bay & Orillia). The Manager will work with the Office of Financial Services to establish the long-term goals and objectives of the department. This position will be accountable for providing products and customer service that meet the needs of their clients, overseeing the financial management of the operation, inventory control and managing departmental staff. A successful candidate has a degree in business, knowledge of general accounting principles, a minimum of five years management and supervisory experience in a retail setting, and marketing abilities. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be effective in establishing and maintaining relationships with students, staff, faculty, suppliers and the general public. Knowledge of point-of-sale systems and their related software is required.

 

Duties:

-        Develop and maintain relationships with students, university staff, faculty, and academic departments to optimize the services being provided.

-        Analyzes product turnover rates to ensure the elimination the retention of stagnant products.

-        Monitoring sales for trends and immerging issues.

-        Ensure all Bookstore activities follow LU policies and procedures in addition to any Bookstore policies and procedures.

-        Develop promotional and special events to increase customer traffic.

-        Ensures that an adequate level of inventory is always kept available for both locations.

-        Manages frequent inventory level audits to ensure accuracy of POS system inventory.

-        Manage shipping and receiving of merchandise to and from suppliers and the between bookstore locations.

-        Works with appropriate staff to ensure textbooks are available as required.

-        Hire, interview, and discipline all full-time and part-time positions as required.

-        Maintain attendance reporting, approve payroll hours, and provide monthly summary reports to Human Resources for all Bookstore and Switchboard staff.

-        Ensure all staff is adequately trained/cross trained for their duties and responsibilities.

 

Qualifications:

-        The ideal candidate will have a degree in business and a knowledge of general accounting principles

-        A minimum of five years management and supervisory experience in a retail

-        Setting

-        Experience and knowledge of computer software pertaining to POS systems and general accounting.

-        Able to manage the processing of invoices related to product purchases

-        Interpersonal and communication skills, which includes strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills

-        Expierience using verbal and written forms targeted to various audiences.

-        Effective skills in dealing with employees and related HR issues
