The Library Technician - Services will provide user-centred support at the library’s online and in-person service points. This work will include promptly and thoroughly answering email and phone inquiries, staffing the Access Service’s desk, and participating as an operator in the OCUL Ask a Librarian chat. In addition to reference support, the Library Technician will maintain patron records and facilitate the circulation of library materials by brief cataloguing, charging, discharging and renewing materials. Services work will also include processing and distributing Lakehead identification cards, processing PaperCut and Makerspace payments and supporting community access to library resources.

 

The incumbent will support the work of the Access Services department by updating signage related to special notices, events and hours. The incumbent will manage the library’s main research help email account, providing reference and directional assistance. The incumbent will work with the technology services centre (TSC) to update weekly guest accounts, which provides computer access to visitors. The incumbent will also assist in the planning and delivery of library events, such as orientations and tours.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

Library Technician Diploma

Advanced internet and online database searching skills;

Strong knowledge of office productivity software, such as Google Drive;

Effective communication skills;

Demonstrated customer service skills;

Good organizational and time management skills;

 

Qualifications that are considered an asset, but are not required:

A Bachelor's level degree

Knowledge of best practices related to accessibility and working with diverse populations.

Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS) such as Alma (Ex Libris);

Experience providing reference and research services in an academic library environment.
