Lakehead University is seeking enthusiastic candidates for the Career Services Coordinator position at our Thunder Bay Campus.  They will be responsible for the planning and implementing of programs for the Career Zone and Career Services on the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses including the daily operation of the Career Zone and marketing and promotion of Career Services. Fostering strong collaborations with community stakeholders, faculty and other support units, the Career Services Coordinator maintains a distinct focus on the development, execution, and reporting of innovative and quality career programming. These programs will assist Lakehead students with meaningful engagement in career development, ultimately leading to a successful career.

 

The Career Services Coordinator will perform a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to:

  • Developing, and executing the Career Zone programming based on student, alumni, and faculty feedback, unique student needs, industry and statistical trends, and strategic goals of Lakehead University.
  • Developing, planning and executing major events such as Career Fairs, Employer Information Sessions, and other employer partnered programming, in-person, virtual, and hybrid.
  • Creating online tools, resources, and services that support hybrid, online and face to face delivery of career services that are accessible to all students and alumni.
  • Supporting the hiring and training of students.
  • Maintaining, operating and identifying improvements for digital platforms such as the MySuccess Job Bank, CoCurricular Record, and Career Services appointment system.
  • Providing one-on-one career coaching support to students, helping them with employment skills and readiness, and develop and implement associated peer programming
  • Acting as an ambassador for Lakehead University’s career services in the campus community and region, to engage employers and intermediary organizations such as the Chambers of Commerce and Workforce Planning Boards in career programming, and to identify employment opportunities for students and alumni.

The Coordinator will encompass the following skills and competencies:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant working experience, with a preference for a post-secondary institution experience in career services and student communications
  • Proven experience in implementing a long range vision through  the  development, execution, analysis, and evaluation programming and events
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Supervisory experience is considered an asset
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to interact successfully with multiple constituencies and stakeholders
