Lakehead University is looking for a Shipper & Receiver/Supplies Buyer in the Bookstore to receive all internal and external shipments to the bookstore from over 400 vendor partners and procure all of the Bookstore’s stationery merchandise for both campuses. The successful candidate should have excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as exceptional attention to detail.

DUTIES

-       Responsible for ensuring all incoming course materials are received correctly into the store’s retail management system

-       Direct drivers and assist in unloading of deliveries, including lifting boxes of merchandise and using a scissor lift and a pallet jack

-       Ensures accuracy in deliveries and signing off on delivery slips

-       Calculates and values all course materials for resale, takes foreign exchange rates and dynamic market pricing into account and assigning profit margins as per store policy

-       Communicates with vendors to discuss new product lines both in person at the campus and at  trade shows

-       Facilitates and supervises aspects of inventory management of stationery supplies, such as merchandising, transfers, stock counts, re-orders, mark-ups, mark-downs, and write-offs as per store policy

-       Negotiates the best pricing, and oversees and approves artwork pursuant to brand standards

-       Coordinates the return of product to vendors resulting from overstock, damaged or defective merchandise

-       Works closely with Bookstore Clerks and Course Materials Supervisor to determine specific titles to be returned and initiate returns memos

QUALIFICATIONS

-       Post-secondary education in Accounting or Bookkeeping

-       2 years’ experience in retail purchasing and warehousing, as well as supervisory experience, preferably with a background in office, school and art supplies.

-       Demonstrated experience in working with inventory and budget management in a retail setting

-       Must possess the ability to organize and prioritize a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment

-       Ability to deal with frequent interruptions

-       High attention to detail and accuracy

-       Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability

to foster a cooperative work environment

-       Mathematical and computer literacy (experience with Excel spreadsheets)

-       Able to work on feet for long periods of time

-       Must have the physical strength and stamina to lift and move heavy goods

-       repeatedly
