As an ambassador for Lakehead University, the Alumni and Annual Giving Associate (GTA) is an integral member of the External Relations team.
Reporting to the Annual Giving Manager, the Associate is a front-line fundraising professional who will work independently within established guidelines and performance metrics. Working within the Greater Toronto Area Engagement Strategy, the Associate will help to lead Lakehead’s campaign readiness efforts in the GTA by building the pipeline for annual and major gift prospects. This position manages a portfolio of donor prospects and is tasked to leverage donor giving and engagement.
The Associate is also responsible for working with and supporting the GTA Alumni Chapter as they assist with the implementation of Lakehead University’s alumni relations strategy, Lakehead for Life.
The position requires strong communication skills and commitment to ensure the growth and success of both portfolios.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Revenue Generation and Alumni Engagement
● Leads the discovery, qualification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts for donors in the $1,000-$25,000 range.
● Identifies donors who have the capacity to make a major gift and migrates them to the appropriate Associate
in consultation with the Philanthropy Director.
● Leads the development of strategies to acquire new donors and recover lapsed donors in the GTA.
● Works within metrics for face-to-face meetings and within vetted goals and objectives for annual revenue generation.
● Supports the GTA Alumni Chapter, helps to manage events and activities and is responsible for sound
volunteer management
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Post-secondary diploma or degree required.
● Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven fundraising success and specific experience in the areas of annual and major
gift solicitation.
● Knowledge of university fundraising and stewardship practices is preferred.
● Proven ability to identify, solicit and accept donations through donor-centered fundraising.
● Proven ability to develop relationships that will identify and cultivate donors.
● Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (orally and written) and confident in public speaking roles.
● Must have the maturity and adaptability to be team oriented and yet be able to work independently with
minimal supervision through collaboration by phone and videoconferencing.
● Must be willing and able to travel extensively throughout the GTA to conduct University business.
● Donor-centred philosophy and professional skills must include excellent communication, problem solving
and organizational skills in the delivery of service at all times.
● Ability to prioritize work while meeting multiple demands and deadlines.
● Experience using Customer Relationship Management systems, and a variety of word processing and
database experience is required.
● Commitment to continuous learning and remaining current with industry trends with ability to apply new concepts.
● The incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle at all times.
● Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
● Evenings and weekend work may be required.
