The School of Kinesiology seeks a dynamic self-initiating Technologist who is a creative problem solver with a demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team.

 

The Technologist will be responsible for performing routine laboratory work related to departmental

teaching, research, and/or administrative activities that may require direct supervision of a faculty/staff member at times.

 

Minimum qualifications for the position are completion of a post-secondary engineering technology program with minimal related experience following graduation or combination of other education and related experience.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

● Ensure cleanliness of the laboratory facilities, and clear labelling of all stored equipment.

● Takes inventory and maintains records of holdings in the laboratories.

● Produces an annual inventory report of laboratory equipment.

● Responsible for the maintenance and repair of laboratory, research, and

   other instruments and equipment.

● Demonstrates the operation of equipment in laboratory facilities under the guidance

   of a faculty/staff member.

● Assists in the fabrication and modification of laboratory equipment as directed.

● Assists in the development of equipment manuals of other prepared material.

● Fully knowledgeable regarding the laboratory policy and procedures manual.

● Facilitates an annual review by the lab committee of the laboratory policy

   and procedures manual.

● Assists, on or off site, with set up of technology for research, teaching, and/or

   promotional events, when requested.

● Assists students with practical aspects of laboratory exercises, projects, and technical

   matters.

● May be requested by a faculty member to supervise students using laboratory

   equipment.

● Assists in the research and purchase of equipment, material, and supplies related to

   laboratory use as approved by the laboratory committee.

● Maintain details and invoices of all purchases for reconciliation of the technologist’s

   purchase card.

● Serves on the School of Kinesiology lab committee.

● Serves on other committees, as required.

● Maintains level of knowledge required for duties of position.

● Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, with other health and

   safety-related legislation and standards, and with such workplace practices as outlined

   by their immediate supervisor.

● Represents the School of Kinesiology on the University Occupational Health and Safety

   committee.

● Takes every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of workers

   and/or students in their charge.

● Performs other related duties as assigned; such duties may be specific to laboratory or

School of Kinesiology needs.
