The Employer Relations and Co-op Advisor in Thunder Bay coordinates co-operative education programming by creating and maintaining relationships with employers, faculty and students; coordinating job development activities; providing individualized student advising and support; promoting co-operative education programs on and off campus; and acting as a liaison with University departments and external organizations for the purpose and benefit of co-op programming and career advising at Lakehead. The Employer Relations and Co-op Advisor also supports career services as needed.

 

The purpose of this role is to engage and support students in practical and meaningful co-op experiences and career search opportunities, and to develop current and potential partnerships with employers and organizations for the mutual benefit of the students, employers, and the University. The Student Success Centre and Lakehead University are committed to recognizing and meeting the diverse needs of Lakehead student communities.

 

The successful candidate will possess:

•           Post-Secondary degree in a related field;

•           3 years of practical experience in a related field such as career advising, employment readiness, training, job placement and marketing, and/or networking

•           Excellent organization, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills;

•           Interest and ability to work with a diverse student population

•           Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills;

•           Capable of working under pressure and balancing numerous and conflicting demands

•           Ability to work well in a team or independently;

•           Competent in working with all levels of employers, management, peers, students, and the

university community

•           Ability to handle conflict and complex student cases or employment situations

•           Ability to plan and implement social and traditional marketing and communications;

•           Demonstrated event planning experience, including budget management

•           Experience adopting new technologies, such as applications common to a virtual office environment.
