The Lakehead University Agricultural Research Station (LUARS) is seeking a contract Agricultural Research and Extension Technician to join their team. The duties include but are not limited to:
- Establish, maintain, and harvest agricultural research plots;
- Collect, record, analyze, and summarize data;
- Write reports, scientific and extension articles, research bulletins and prepare presentations;
- Explore potential partnerships and write funding applications for research opportunities;
- Attend local agricultural meetings and interact with local members of the agricultural and research community;
- Share research results with the local agricultural community;
- Operate and manage a research laboratory; from ensuring cleanliness and safety requirements.
The incumbent may also be required to devise and conduct appropriate formal and informal surveys to study the farming systems in the area in their entirety, and will be required to prepare research and develop proposals/business plans for projects aimed at the development of the agricultural industry.
Remuneration will commensurate with qualification and experience. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree preferably in agricultural sciences, or a BSc degree with related experience. Skills required include completion of the Grower Pesticide Safety Course, First Aid and CPR certificates, valid Ontario Class G driver’s license, WHMIS and computer knowledge including Windows. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
