Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus invites applications for a Contract Lecturer in the Department of Visual Arts.  Applicants are requested to teach:

Course and Qualifications

VISU 2010 FA Intermediate Drawing/3013 FA Advanced Drawing/VISU 4013 FA Senior Drawing (Web Asynchronous, bundled as 1 course/0.5 FCE)

2010: Explores contemporary and traditional approaches to different methods of drawing. Various methods of figure drawing based on direct observations and other research will be addressed.

3013: An advanced study of drawing from observation, memory, research, and imagination. Emphasis is placed on drawing from the model and anatomy with a focus on observational drawing. Development of the technical and aesthetic skills required for effective self-expression are explored and an individual drawing series is introduced.

4013: Students will conduct the research, planning and production for a self-directed body of work to be included as part of the 4th year capstone group exhibition in the spring.

Qualifications Preferred: MFA degree in studio art. Must be well versed in contemporary approaches to the medium and the use of unconventional methods of drawing. Must have a working knowledge of digital practices associated with drawing as an expanded art form and experience working with interdisciplinary approaches to studio practices.  Must be able to support undergraduate capstone projects and assist with the Honours degree exhibition. Must be able to create and maintain health and safety protocols and contribute to maintaining the teaching and storage spaces. Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired. Experience with differentiated instruction is highly desired. 

VISU 2011 WA Intermediate Drawing/VISU 3014 WA Advanced Drawing/VISU 4014 WA Senior Drawing (Web Asynchronous, bundled as 1 course/0.5 FCE)

2011: Drawing with an emphasis on alternative methods and unconventional tools. Includes observational studies of the human form.

3014: Continues the application of techniques and concepts from observation and imagination. Emphasis is placed on the development of the language of drawing, mark making as an individualized tool, and non-traditional techniques and approaches. An independent series is further developed and presentation issues are considered.

4014: Students are expected to produce a significant body of exhibition quality works of art continuing the individualized outline established in 4013 and decided in consultation with the instructor. Coursework will be selected as part of a group exhibition for a degree-culminating art exhibition.
