Department of Interdisciplinary Studies - Philosophy

Lakehead University, Orillia Campus, invites applications for Contract Lecturer in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. Applications are requested to teach:

PHIL 2413 WAO – A Defense Against the Dark Arts (Winter)
A study of reasoning and argument in real-life contexts such as editorials, magazine articles, political speeches, and videos. The purpose of the course is to foster the ability to think critically, detect flaws in fallacious arguments, and defend against the dark arts of sophistry and rhetoric employed by politicians, corporations, and fake news sites in an attempt to manipulate individuals and the public.

Start Date/Duration:   January 1 to April 30, 2022

Qualifications Preferred:  PhD (preferred) with teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Candidates lacking the specific degree qualification (e.g., ABD doctoral students), but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications are also encouraged to apply. Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired.
