Overview


Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for a Contract Lecturer in the Department of Psychology. Applications are requested to teach:

PSYC 3010WA Psychological Disorders in Childhood (on campus)
A critical examination of concepts related to the understanding of child psychopathology. The focus is on symptomatology, assessment, diagnosis, etiology, and treatment of a variety of disorders including neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, learning disorder), behavioural disorders, depressive disorders, and anxiety disorders.

PSYC 3016WDE Personality Psychology (web)
Examines topics in traditional and contemporary personality psychology. Focuses on personality assessment, motivation, biological and genetic influences, sex and gender, traits, the self-concept, and the evolutionary function of personality. Additionally, the association between personality and relationships, health outcomes, morality, and beliefs will be covered.

PSYC 4111FA Statistics for Psychology 3 (on campus or Zoom)
For the aspiring researcher in Psychology, newer and specialized statistical procedures will be the focus. Prepares students to plan, analyze, and interpret the results of their honours thesis.

                                     Mondays and Wednesdays 8:30am to 10:00am (tentative)
                                     Lab Fridays 12:30 to 1:30pm

PSYC 4611WDE History of Psychology (Zoom)
The historical and theoretical foundations of psychology from its philosophical and scientific antecedents to the early studies of the nervous system will be reviewed. Main currents in psychological thought such as the emergence of experimental psychology and the development of clinical psychology will be emphasized.

PSYC 4151WDE Advanced Studies in the Psychology of Aging (web)
An in-depth examination of selected topics in normal aging, with emphasis on both research methodology and the practical utilization of findings. Measurement and research design issues associated with the use of primary versus secondary data (e.g., survey data and administrative data) will be explored. The topics included will range from physical performance through cognition to psychosocial well-being, with the main theoretical perspective being on the promotion of a higher quality of life in older people.

PSYC 5151WA Multivariate Statistics (on campus)
This course will focus on various advanced statistical techniques that can be used in psychological research. Topics will include multiple regression, factor analysis, cluster analysis, structural modeling, discriminant function analysis, multivariate analysis of variance, meta-analysis, canonical correlation, sequential analyses, and loglinear modeling.

PSYC 5201 YA Clinical Assessment (on campus)
Designed to familiarize students with the full spectrum of psychological tests and assessment techniques that are currently used in the practice of Clinical Psychology. Students will be taught the relationships between various assessment protocols and clinical diagnoses with emphasis given to relevant ethical and legal guidelines. Students will have practica that involve proficiency development in the administration, scoring, interpretation, and report writing of selected tests. Finally, the research literature and psychometrics on frequently used test batteries coupled with diagnoses will be reviewed from a scientist-practitioner perspective.

Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired. 

Qualifications Preferred: PhD in Psychology and teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred, with relevant expertise in Psychology. Candidates lacking the specific degree qualification (e.g., ABD doctoral students), but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications are also encouraged to apply. Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired.
