Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for Teaching Assistants in the School of Outdoor Recreation, Parks & Tourism as follows: 

OUTD 1310 Outdoor Skills & Theory
OUTD 2755 Natural Areas Tourism

Instructor Positions Available for:                             

  • 3-day weekend trip (Canoe/Backpack; Neys P.P.)
  • Friday Labs: Navigation, Outdoor living systems
  • Weekend Voyageur Canoeing
  • Group Dynamics Facilitation

Position duties:

  • Lead and facilitate a 1 and/or 3-day intensive field experience
  • Teach and model excellent technical knowledge, risk management, safety, and judgement
  • Organize logistics and equipment
  • Supervise and evaluate students

Position Qualifications:

·    Certification and/or related experience in some of above activities

  • Excellent teaching and communication/facilitation skills
  • Excellent safety awareness and risk management skills
  • It would be an asset to have: Wilderness First Responder or equivalent first aid training
  • It would be an asset to have water safety training

Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired.

Hours/position:  Max of 100 hrs for the semester with work on Fridays, Saturdays &/or Sundays
