THREE-YEAR LIMITED TERM APPOINTMENT – THUNDER BAY CAMPUS

Lakehead University is delighted to announce a transformative evolution of its Faculty of Engineering that will lead to the creation of the ‘Modern Engineering’ paradigm. This ambitious project builds on the successes of the present Faculty of Engineering, which currently offers fully accredited and innovative programs in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering as well as a new BEng + MBA program.

This major initiative provides a unique opportunity for both senior and junior faculty to help lead the creation of innovative teaching and research programs that integrate the diverse areas of Engineering, Law, Business, Sciences and Humanities, within the multidisciplinary environment of Lakehead University. 

The Department of Civil Engineering at Lakehead University invites applications for a 3-year, teaching-focused, limited term appointment in Civil Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing August 01, 2021. Preference will be given to those candidates with a demonstrated commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level and with evidence of an effective and established teaching record.

The Department offers an accredited Bachelor of Engineering degree as well as Graduate programs in Civil Engineering. The successful candidate will teach three full-course equivalents (six half-credit courses) per year along with supervising undergraduate students for their final year degree project. Typical course assignments may include structural analysis; design of structures in steel, reinforced concrete, masonry or timber; mechanics of solids; and introductory courses in the traditional fields of civil engineering, including soil mechanics, dynamics, and construction materials. In addition to teaching, the candidate will be required to participate in the administrative work of the Department and University, in activities such as outreach and recruitment, serving on administrative and student committees, and curriculum development.

The preferred candidates will have:

    i.An earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from a recognized university with a specialization in the general area of structural analysis and design, a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering, post-doctoral or other relevant experience is an asset;

   ii.A demonstrated commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and evidence of an effective and established teaching record, and of educational leadership;

  iii.The potential to make service contributions to the Department.

 iv.Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired

Preference will be given to the candidates registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
