Reporting to the Vice-President, Research and Innovation, the Director will lead the development of research partnerships with industry and actively explore commercial and service opportunities arising from the technologies and expertise at the University. They will facilitate applications for joint University-Industry funding programs and enhance the leading role of Lakehead University in knowledge-based innovation and economic development in Northwestern Ontario and Simcoe County by developing and implementing commercialization plans, marketing plans and providing business services for the University's R&D initiatives. In addition, they will have the role of business development and commercialization for the Biorefining Research Institute and Lakehead University Agricultural Research Station (LUARS). Working closely with the Vice-President, Research and Innovation and the Director, Research Services, they will facilitate special projects, including presentations and proposals to industry, not-for-profit organizations and government. They will work closely with Lakehead faculty members, Economic Development and Innovation, Research Services, the Lakehead University Centre for Analytical Services, and the Research and Strategic Initiatives Facilitator at our campus in Orillia.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Business, Science or Engineering or other relevant discipline; a graduate degree is an additional asset. In addition, five or more years of relevant experience, with proven experience in business development in an industry setting or a university research environment. A strong business acumen is necessary as is a working knowledge of intellectual property policies and principles. Ability to represent Lakehead University to prospective local, regional, national and international partners and collaborators, and develop and present business opportunities with confidence and clarity is a must. An entrepreneurial spirit is essential, as is creativity, commitment, and determination. Leadership, interpersonal and communication skills to independently initiate and accomplish the expected responsibilities is also required.
