Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute is seeking a Research Assistant Intern.

">The
successful candidate will be working in a laboratory that is based at the
Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute (TBRRI); a health research institute
that is fully affiliated with Lakehead University and the Thunder Bay Regional
Health Sciences Centre. TBBRI has three key research themes -- Advanced
Detection Devices, Imaging Guided Interventions, and Probe Development and
Biomarker Exploration. This laboratory is guided under the Advanced Detection
Devices scope and focuses on using hyperpolarized (HP) noble gas Magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI), an innovative technology that provides spectacularly
detailed images of structures and processes within the body. HP gas MRI has the
potential to allow medical researchers and health care providers to
significantly improve diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases,
including lung diseases, stroke, and cancer. This job will include involvement
in all phases of design, construction, and optimization HP gas MRI technologies
for pulmonary functional imaging, brain imaging and other techniques using HP
gas MRI.

">Specific
duties will include MRI experiments with hyperpolarized (HP) noble gas,
assistance with experiment scheduling, data archiving, and post-processing and
analysis of images from the MR experiments. The intern will also prepare and
work on Health Canada and Research Ethic Board requirements, clinical protocol
development, as well as in organizing studies with animals or patients and
verifying any experiment or trial is scientifically sound and clearly
described.

This
position would be suitable for individuals who have a Masters degree or
experience in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or Health Sciences. High ranking
undergraduate students will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. The
individual should have a good background in physics, mathematics, chemistry,
programming or health research services. The individual should also exemplary
writing skills, experience in Health Canada and Research Ethic Board
applications is considered an asset. Experience in medical imaging,
specifically Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is also considered an asset.
